And now for something completely different!

So aside from doodling, as some of you might know, another passion of mine is sports. Whether it be baseball, skiing, snowboarding, rollerblading, swimming etc, I'm usually all for it.

So I go swimming on a regular basis, great workout and a good time to hang out with friends. My regular swimming buddy has now introduced me to a fantastic new "workout" and "artform" in the pool, and I must say, as silly as this may sound...it's WICKED AWESOME.

Lady's and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to Mermaiding. Yes, you saw correctly...Mermaiding. Swimming with a full fledged tail, doing flips and tricks in the water, and swimming like a dolphin :) Fantastic workout for the abs and legs, great for breathing exercises, good times are had by all, and a way to take on a totally new persona while in the water.

I'm sure some people reading this are thinking..wow that's taking nerd-ism to a whole new level, but frankly this is actually a very serious activity that thousands of men and women around the world take part in.

Many of the participants are activists, trying to protect our world's oceans, or at least have an interest in this, while others just like the idea of being able to be something different, something unique and something magical.

The tail is the coolest thing, and is a challenge to swim in. The one I currently am using (made by my friend Courtney Mermaid) weighs 10-15lbs wet, made of Neoprine, not Neoprene, and is completely hand sewn and hand painted.

Others you can find or buy are made of Silicone, which weigh anywhere from 20lbs to 40lbs when dry, 60lbs when wet. tough to workout in :)

for more information on this epicness check out www.vancouvermermaid.com, where you can find videos of Courtney swimming and now Myself as well :) as well as information on Mermaiding, and just how much fun it is!!
